Seriously, Tesla is on to something. Their business model is very clever. Electric motors have almost unlimited torque, great for a sports car. Electric cars are not ready for road trips yet, sports cars are not meant for a road trip. The buyers of a premium sports car and an electric car have a fair amount of overlap. So, build a premium electric sports car that is faster than a Lamborghini, and cost 2 cent a mile to drive!
